Anyone watch the Brucie tribute this evening. By its very nature was always going to be sycophantic - I accept that but what it showed was some not very good singing. Also some good singing - the Ball / Boe duo demonstrates how bad the former and good the latter.
We caught up with a live stream that was from yesterday by three mass bands of HM Royal Marines! They are simply the best musicians out there! I have been to see the Mountbatten Festival of Music before but I do yearn to go again. Maybe next year? They have a new Bugler major, a new Director of Music Lt Col John Ridley and a new Captain General, HRH Prince Henry of Wales

Evening Sunday nighters. As Rob is back, and despite it being the latest post Beefy Era, I though this might be worth reviving.
I spent a quite bit of today effectively decommissioning my/our study. Who needs a study in these days of laptops and memory sticks?
Anyway, the room, which already housed my CDS,*is now a bespoke music room, or Ambient Hutch as Mrs TS has named it.
Which is nice. Very nice actually. Currently enjoying some Schubert ( Fantasie D940,Haebler).
So now you know.
Hope you all had good weekends, and are looking forward to a week of retirement style loafing about, or other enjoyable activity .
Evening all! My main focus this year is impending retirement but as I have to wait until, officially, Dec 31, there's precious little chance of loafing round just yet! I'm taking advantage of the company 'wind down' scheme from Sept 30 so will have more time on my hands from then, despite actually reaching 65 in June. Can't wait!
Plenty of CDs and books to keep me occupied, that's for sure.

Good evening guys and gal, hope you are all well
It's good to be back, hope Beefy does return soon.
Looking forward to Quatuor Danel in Weinberg 10,11 & 12 next Saturday at Manchester University.
A first ever trip to Berlin end of Feb.
Don't fancy the BPO concert that week but got my eye on a Katia Buniatishvili piano recital,and/or Janine Jansen, Alexander Gavrylyuk in Schumann,Brahms and Franck Violin Sonatas

ts, how long before you can’t get in for stock? My aim for 2019 is for all to be on shelves - a cull is overdue
A big thank you to the Cloughmeister for recommending the VPO/Abbado Mahler 4 on another thread recently, a recording I didn’t know. How many stars did it get in the Penguin Guide I wonder. Did I let received wisdom put me off? At all events I don’t remember the Berlin remake being as involving.
I was moved to dig out the Mahler 4 from the Solti Chicago box and thought that was pretty impressive too, beautifully played lower strings.

Disappointed with the horse racing situation here compounded by the fact that my 22/1 bet at Naas on Saturday lost by a nostril in a photo finish otherwise it would have been boxed sets here we come!
The VPO/Abbado Mahler 4 is indeed excellent, Alison, as is the Solti. The third movement of the 4th reminds me so much of my late mother, an association formed when I heard the Mahler 4 at the Proms (LSO/Haitink) a week before she died.
Just 232 days to go now until I start my company wind-down period to retirement!
