    Evening folks.
Nice weather in prospect for the week, down here at any rate.
Short week for me, day off on Friday. hurrah.

Musically, lots of Villa Lobos at the moment, inspired by the world cup I suppose. Just picked up a great CD of the Bachianas Brasileira with Barbara Hendricks. Fabulous stuff.

Yes, here we are half way through the year, or end of Q2 , as the bosses call it !!
A modest days business tomorrow should see me over the line for a nice little bonus, so its busy busy tomorrow !!

      Good luck with that teams

Whole place here in uproar, CDs all in boxes, HiFi dimantled and packed away and the decorators arrive tomorrow 8am...

Feeling starved of high quality sounds...

All will be well by this time next month!

At least there's the football and Game of Thrones to distract.... though this Greece-CR match is a Hoooge Snooooze...

I can empathise with the decorating thing, Cals. Just treated ourselves to having a major decorating job done by a professional! A young lady no less, she did a brilliant job, it was an absolute pleasure to be able to give her the work.MUCH better than DIY, but still disruptive, and new stereo needed mothballing.

Hope your job is done in short order, and full fidelity with lovely surroundings are soon restored !!

Good luck with the decorating, Caliban. Decorating my 'music room' is something I hope to postpone indefinitely . Putting CDs in boxes? Dismantling the hi-fi? Gives me the sweats just thinking about it.

A full week in the office this week but not long to go now before the Proms start and summer holidays get going in earnest.

Should be getting Claudio Abbado's Lucerne Bruckner 9 this week (release date July 2)

Thanks both and Rob too... Yes, local and long-known professional chaps will be doing the decorating, and I've had the benefit of youthful assistance (teenaged French cousin earning pocket money and improving English for his 'Bac.' next year) who did the dusting and lugging and boxing and labelling, and will still be here to do the reverse procedures.

And it's cathartic in a sense (just a bit of a nightmare right now), going to prune a load of CDs before replacing on freshly-painted shelves; and a significant number of unwanted books have already gone to Dr Barnado's. Plus the HiFi removal will allow dust-free replacement in position...

...so am hoping for a leaner, cleaner life, with more space for purchases...

Damn, I knew there had to be a catch!!

Well actually I'm increasingly veering towards downloads and the blessèd Airport Express, so I'm going to try my damnedest not to fill the spaces with dust-attracting objects!

I really do need to prune my CDs but apart from obvious duplications it isn't easy. I don't have the same nostalgic attachment to CDs as I did to LPs and still do to books so I need to take a real hard look at it. I've got every single BBC MM CD but there are many I wouldn't miss so could make a start there. Charity shops are full of them so will need to spend time I haven't got in weeding them out and spreading the unwanteds around the area.

Deeply flawed logic.surprising in a learned gentleman.(is that the correct term?)
The dust just lands in the space.
But the space is less interesting than the potential objects that could be filling it......

                            True!

And Pet, I find it quite easy to get rid of stuff once I get started. I already got rid of loads of free cover CDs from Classic CD, Gramophone and some BBC Music Mag ones filed under 'misc'. The ones I want are already filed under composers (Mackerras's Mahler 6 springs to mind - that's a keeper!).

Rule of thumb/starting point - if I haven't looked at it, read it or played it in 20 years, and there's no other reason (e.g. present) to keep it: out it goes, it's obviously not necessary!

Evening all. Enjoy the Men's Final ?

Difficult decision for Pet with his Alan Gilbert Proms. Is it easy returning tickets?

Not long till the Proms now.

Hi Alison and all Sunday clubbers

                                Mens's final what ?

Pet could swap his tickets for the Alwyn 1

BTW,currently listening to the evening concert,a lovely programme of music for voice, violin and piano by Somervell, Butterworth, Gurney, Kelly and Elgar.
EE's violin sonata to come, you've still got time, tune in now.
