Gosh Cali....those trees are much further on than 300 miles North....Hawthorn bushes only just beginning to fill out, and Birches thinking about it....

BUT GREEN FLY HAS ARRIVED...but no swallows yet

That's right, eighth - purple lilac just about to burst open, and the candles on all our horsechestnuts in full display. ("Fork handles!!!" )

Well, hello all after a prolonged and rather dreary absence. Still no sign of blossom on my baby apple trees, but I must live in hope.

Currently enjoying The Vicar of Bray - one of my favourites.

              Thanks for kind words.
One interesting experience recently was a live relay of the Bolshoi Ballet's last production of the season, Marco Spada or The Bandit's Daughter, with a fabulous Principal Dancer in David Hallberg and new choreography from Pierre Lacotte.
I liked Hallberg better than Nureyev -he's a bit like a musical praying mantis - so watch out for him.

Can't leave the good old Sunday thread out on such a special Sunday.
Hope you all had a lovely day, despite some rather mixed weather, and that all of us workers are off tomorrow.

A nice quiet family day with some decent music for me, taking it gently after a late night seeing one of my fave bands up in London last night.
Enjoying the remains of the day with some Debussy, after watching 'Philomena', which is a very decent film.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Can't believe how quickly this Easter holiday has gone. Off tomorrow but back at work on Tuesday

Spent part of the morning trying to bring some order to my CD collection. Some old VHS videos removed to make way for boxed sets. Listened to Choral Evensong from Chester Cathedral and played Solti's Messiah tonight.

Last Sunday of April. Quite a pleasant weekend but an extra day off next week will be much appreciated.

Just been looking at the Proms line up for this year. As usual I am underwhelmed at first and expect to enjoy the concerts when they arrive.

Only caught the finale of Mahler 7. Funny old performance. I kept thinking the handbrake was coming off but it didn't happen. The orchestra didn't sound convinced. Not a patch on Philharmonia/Dudamel.

                            evening sunday nighters.
Miserable weekend of weather down, here, but a win for the Saints and some good music have helped cheer things up.

Trying to really get to grips with "Asrael" , before hopefully seeing it live at the RFH in a week or two.

Still got a little buzz from the Faust Trio on Friday The Schumann third Trio was pretty special. I would spend a lot more time listening to his music if work didn't get in the way so much......

Enjoy your day off Alison, hope you have something nice lined up.

There are a few Proms that take my fancy, probably more than I can get to, so can't complain too much. Still live in hope of seeing an Arnold, Simpson or Rubbra symphony live !!!

Alison, completely forgot about the Mahler 7 - still can't get used to live concerts on a Sunday night. Gatti is often a frustrating conductor so perhaps I haven't missed much. That Philharmonia/Dudamel performance last November was a real knockout and one I won't be forgetting in a hurry coming as it did the night before my father was taken to hospital and his passing two days later.

TS, someone put up a brilliant analysis of Suk's Asrael Symphony on here some months ago and it's just what you need. I'll try and find it again as Asrael is a pretty tough nut to crack but worth it once cracked.

There are some good Proms and I won't have much trouble in attending my usual dozen or so. There are plenty of duff ones too which makes me think the season is too long as it looks too much like padding. At least, I'll have my senior railcard by then so travel costs will come down. Could do with some decent hotel deals to reduce even further.

EDIT This might be the one

                                Evening all.
Don't wanna rub it in but the weather has been great up here.
I can recommend the Beaux Arts set of the complete Schumann trios ts,it's wonderful.
                                The Proms,Match of the Day theme,Gabby Logan,Proms debut artist,CBeebies,for goodness sake !!!
I'll listen to a few,one day I'll get to one but they seem to be getting less enticing as the years go by.
Most looking forward to the big Elgar opener,Alwyn 1,Mathias and Moeran vcs,the pabmusic prom,RVW Job.
                                I would limit composers to 2 works per season,so instead of this season's 8 LvBs you would have 2 and,say, 1 x Weinberg,Myaskovsky,Rubbra,Lloyd,,Simpson,Hovhanes s and so on,well variety's the spice of life,rambling mode
