Hmmm not too sure about York Bowen: I find him best as a miniaturist, having a Baxish piano piece I can just about get my digits around, but otherwise too derivative for me of other people who did it much better, too much of an incompatible muchness. Anyone else feel this about York Bowen?

I just checked, and its 2 years since my thread on the subject !! Wow.

The Technology moves so quickly, but I think the first thing to do is to figure out what you want a system to do. If this is to play CDs, FM and DAB, its pretty straightforward, otherwise.....
Anyway, the board advice was (in the main) useful !

      On other subjects:

Chris Hughton, surely a victim of work place nonsense, as the CEO seems to have had it in for him.

York Bowen. must give that symphony a proper run and find some more chamber music to listen to.

      Have a good week folks.

too right. and the weather forecast looking decent.

Despite the madness and nonsense of modern premier league footy, multi millionaire players, etc, todays game between citeh and Liverpool almost restores ones faith in the beautiful game.

I was going to revive Alison's " Let's learn a Symphony" thread. Not quite sure of one to suggest at present.Off to check my CDs........

My thoughts exactly. Not heard of a decent weather forecast for Easter. Better get this checked out.

Anybody got anything special lined up for Easter? Just a long relaxing weekend for me. My workplace has changed holiday arrangements for Easter so instead of 50% off on Friday and 50% on Tuesday they are closing down on Friday only. This suits me fine.

Lovely day in Essex. Had a little barbecue with the neighbours, just the three of us.

Upgraded my mobile and enjoyed watching the racing from Ireland.

Only two days work this week. Will be at Newmarket on Thursday and Kempton Park on Saturday.

Got some spa treatments to look forward to - wraps and massages!

Not much time for music though sainty's recent concert tempted me to take down Tennstedt's Janacek Sinfonietta.

There s a splendid Bartered Bride overture on that disc too.

Any interesting tips for Saturday, Alison? Could do with a winner (or three).

Will see what I can come up with later in the week as the races take shape.

It's an exciting time for flat enthusiasts.

True but a depressing one too that far more money is being thrown at a meeting nobody wants on a day nobody( bar bookies and those twits at Racing for Change or whatever they are called ) want i.e. Good Friday than at the Craven meeting . That remains a wonderful meeting , what a cast of stars ran there last year and Friday's all weather championships card is full of listed class bores at best .

Lovely day in Kent, too, where we had a family birthday gathering - three family birthdays in February including one big round-number job... but we looked at the weather back then and thought: "nahhhh.... let's wait till Spring". And what a great decision: a perfect day to sit in a rural pub garden after a roast lunch, taking dessert and nattering and looking at the cloudless blue sky setting off all the fresh greens of the trees*, and across the way, blossom in full glory with the oast-houses peeping over... trying to name the birds from their songs, spotting butterflies (I now know you have to look closely to distinguish an orange-tip from a cabbage white...).

                          Idyllic.

The Shepherd Neame wasn't bad too, BBM

Ah Cali!! Me and the mrs were at Batemen's yesterday. Lovely spring day, it was too. Although a few people were dressed as if it were a hot summers day!

the one thing that really annoys me about the national Trust and it's properties are those wretched volunteers!! I know they are there to help and ask questions but if you don't want to be collared by one then you should be left alone, methinks?
