Why, thank you, Caliban! I'm so pleased at my warm welcome. If I hear "pop-up studio" one more time, I'll pop my fist through the computer screen! Imagine having to say that for two weeks! I wonder how presenters liked being in such a distracting environment while broadcasting. (Thanks for your thread and photos on the subject, Caliban. It was great fun to read. In fact, I need to return to it and catch up.) KUSC is indeed the classical music station of record throughout southern California, although it is far from being a full 24-hour classical station. My home is about 109 miles south of LA central.

I mostly listen to the entirety of "CD Review," (especially "Building a Library" which I rarely miss) though I occasionally use the slider to skip the bits I am not interested in. "Composer of the Week" "Lunchtime Concert" and Afternoon on 3" are other favorites of mine. Being retired, I have more time than some of you might to enjoy Radio 3 programs.

Time for you all to get to bed! Otherwise the time change will strike you at work tomorrow! I notice many night owls on the Forum, though, and I doubt I'm seeing people from this hemisphere alone.

Alison, I agree with you about last week's performance of the Organ Symphony. Stupendous!

I remember attending an RPO/Previn concert at Symphony Hall, Birmingham some years ago - they must have used recorded be;;s as they sounded with no sign of anyone striking anything - most dis concert ing!

Yes but I haven't had time to listen to the podcasts yet. I've a lot to catch up on since the very interesting Mahler 5 one - Schubert D958 and Wanderer Fantasie, LvB Missa Solemnis, Chopin Piano Concerto No 1 etc. As I recently acquired a new car into which I can plug my iPod, and have some holiday and trips coming up this month, I'm planning on doing some listening on the move

It was and I was very lucky, indeed. It made me think Saint-Saens is very closely coupled with Mendelssohn in my mind (and head and shoulders above many familiar composer names), in that even their most familiar works are so full of fresh inventiveness and so beautifully crafted and orchestrated that - even though they aren't counted in the first rank of Bach-Beethoven etc 'greatness' - they can provide musical pleasure second to none... and when brilliantly played (witness the recent Chandos record of Mendelssohn by the CBSO under Gardner) can deliver really addictive delight! Or as the San Diego Chapter would have it:

Good evening Sunday nighters. Hope you have all had a good (and for the racing crew) profitable weekend.

Fantastic work concluded by the foxes, looking forward to showing them how its done at SMS next season.

Exciting day today, finally got round to buying a decent and much needed new stereo, Currently running the BBCNOW/Hickox Rubbra #1, and it sounds fab !! been trialling all kinds of stuff today, pretty happy, can't wait to hear some Proms on it. Radio seems especially good on it.

it has internet radio roo, but I can't seem to get American stations. Need to press different buttons, I guess !!

Only a very slightly profitable weekend for me, alas. Was rather hoping for a lottery win so I didn't have to return to work.

The office shenanigans was dealt with but, naturally, management have already decided and in interviewing other members of staff were merely going through the motions. Needless to say, the principal one doing the bullying goes unpunished and the victim (who stupidly walked out) gets no justice whatever. The whole thing was a charade with questions heavily slanted against the victim and anyone going off-piste (that's me) had their points ignored and questioned again until they gave the 'right' answer. There are times when I really hate office life and retirement can't come soon enough.

So not really looking forward to this week very much but Easter hols not far away.

                Sorry, usual Sunday night grumpiness.

sorry to hear about the (sadly predictable) office B*****x, Pet. I wish I had good advice to offer.

What is the York Bowen download stuff , ER? Always enjoy his music, especially like the Phantasy for Viola and piano.

managed to record a rather scratchy download of a symphony recently from unsung Composers recently, but it needs a proper listen !

I have to agree about Rubbra. Perhaps this years Proms.....?

Finally done it then ts - seems like years since you sought advice on the boards. Got to say I wouldn't know where to start . I guess I'll stick with my old stuff until FM disappears.

Just got in so only the diehards left at the bar I see.

Just heard that Chris Hughton has been sacked. Crazy at this stage of the season.

Yeah looking forward to the saints fixtures already!

I've got that new Tchaikovsky 7 disc planned for car listening this week.
