I believe that the Berlin Phil. Had never played it until recently when Sir Simon conducted it with them recently.

I've copied the various racing-based posts from Sunday Night chat to the Racing Thread - copied, mind, not moved, so that the former remains intact.

As Teamsaint said, the power of music is extraordinary, quite beyond comprehension.
I honestly believe that RVW's music keeps me sane.

I am listening... it's early Lloyd years, but I have yet to have my prejudices dashed of an essentially light music composer, blessed with occasional moments of originality and even brilliance, vitiated by lapses into what becomes other people's cliches and general cheesiness: the third symphony (on now) being an example.

(Cringes out of embarrassment and to avoid brickbats from the uncritical Britmusak brigade).

If I were to win the £157,000,000 jackpot on the Euromillions tomorrow I would commission Sir Simon and the Berlin Phil. to make new recordings of all of his symphonies!!!

I listened today at lunchtime (working from home),especially good to hear the operatic excerpt which was new to me.
No brickbats from me,I suppose people get something out of this music or they don't,I find it very rewarding.
I've heard the symphonies described as cliched and cheesy many times,I just don't hear it.

Well, you never know. Wonder how much it would cost for Sir Simon, The Berlin Phil and Abbey Road for a day...
