It's all very well for Mrs Finegold to be outraged, but for us this all happened just before Xmas. Imagine!

Downturn Abbey (Private Eye passim)? Just let the series roll on, I love the houses, the scenery, the cars, the costumes . . . ?

Ilistened to 'The Archers' from the beginning in 1951 for years, now I occasionally catch it by accident and don'tknow any of the characters. Ditto, Coronation Street. Ditto East Enders. I'm surprised that Judith Keppel of Eggheads dotes on the latter. I've never watched Downton Abbey, boring.
Have I grown up or got too picky?

But would that make any difference in this misdescribed "everyday story of country folk" in which apparently not all of the non-characters even speak BBC Brummerset?

If you've never seen it, how can you be certain that it's boring? Whilst she can almost certainly do her part in it in her sleep, I imagine that Dame Maggie Smith doesn't find it so - and I don't suppose that she needs the money that badly...

Actually, the Better Half is named Ms. O'Laughlin, and she was was particularly saddened when one of the characters apparently married an Irish Servant and then promptly got bumped off. (I don't watch the show, but she and everyone else we know does, and I get to hear about each outrage after the episode conclusion).

                  Apologies!

I suspect Julian Fellowes has a dartboard with the names of the characters scattered about on it. As good a way of plotting as any.

It's rumoured there are some people who think DA is a documentary.

Ah - wars and rumours of wars and all that...

I'm reminded of "Trying to squash a rumor is like trying to unring a bell" (Shana Alexander) and "A rumor without a leg to stand on will get around some other way" (John Tudor)...

Like most series of this kind, Downton Abbey began quite well, but soon turned into a soap, even if a moderately entertaining one.
