...lacklustre or not, it made the ardcarps miserably aware of their lack of knowledge of film-music composers. [Not to mention up, down, middle and bottom quarks...but we're less concerned about that.]

... I'm always quick to shout "Nominate Mme v !" when the questions are on quarks or film music. Not that she's any better than I am in these areas - I just like shelving the responsibility...

I think the annual contest really takes off in the quarter final round when teams have multiple appearances in relatively quick succession and personalities begin to emerge more ( for better or worse ! )

          .
Mrs T usually gets geology or art questions - an expert on tectonic plates she shouted out "Iapetus" last night....

Still nothing from Kerry, probably wondering what on earth to say about the winning captain's knitwear, making its second appearance - - doubt we've seen the last of it. I scrolled back to see if she mentioned it last time, couldn't find her previous report on last night's winners. But she was I see very severe on Warwick's Gower -

I was also confused by the facial hair of Warwick’s Gower: is it a beard? Is it mutton chops? I mean, if you’re going to go all Jeff-from-Byker-Grove you are NOT ALLOWED STUBBLE.

I don't get the cultural reference but agree with the sentiment - more Rorke's Drift, I thought

I would’ve thought the music would be classical at this stage.

The only one I can remember from the actual event was this one - tho I don't know if it was the original or the Clash version that they used.....

Obviously polymath Paxman had never heard of a plaJal cadence!

I had one of them right. Can’t remember which one. Plus the King John question, which was rather obvious and another one, which I can’t remember!

I think you're an obvious candidate for the next series BBM. I guess the universities are just out there waiting to snap you up!

I thought it a touch tricksie of the question setters to slip the Grosse Fugue into Monday's music question, thus confusing contestant Leo. They must have been thinking of the famous comment by Stravinsky. Still, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person (Leo, not Stravinsky). He does know an irritating amount. I'd like to think it was planned!

I'm afraid I found one competitor on each team extremely irritating.
(Oh, and it's 'Grosse Fuge', isn't it?)
