A good contest tonight with well-matched teams, I thought. Some very hard questions though. An interesting music question. With the Singer/Polignac connection we anticipated the Poulenc Organ Concerto might come up...but not easy for non-specialists. I thought the science/maths topics were especially arcane.

Was it any good? An Oxbridge round tonight.....wondering if we have the energy for another series, I suppose it helps keep the brain active.

A rabbit-in-headlights performance from the Lancaster captain, and their classical music expert on the left has a bad attack of the Derhams.....

There used to be a story that, when an English Musician pronounced the composer's name with the emphasis on the second syllable, the composer corrected him by singing to the tune of the Finale of Beethoven's 8th Symphony
My name is Smetana, Smetana, Smetana

And the prize for most annoying team captain goes to.....
I hope someone has a word with him about being a smartarse and answering over the end of the question so that we can't hear either. No doubt he will become an internet sensation. I liked the Merton team, I do hope they come back as a highest-scoring loser but it'll be touch and go.
