What's happening to the Cambridge teams?

Despite his thanks for the teams for giving up their time when they don't have to do this there are is still, from time to time, a hint of the Paxo sneer. I think it would be very interesting to a see an episode hosted by someone else, with JDP on the team representing St Catharine's, Cambridge.

          Life doesn’t work like that.

Perhaps not, but one can still wish...

I'm sure he is very knowledgable in some fields, but it is very easy to appear clever when you have the answer written on a card!

Indeed. I don't mind personally, but I know others who do. When he adds "Of course" to a response the implication that he really did know the answer just makes him look like Mr Know It All. Why not take the answer cards away from him, and see how he (or anyone else...) does then.

Surely we haven't forgotten thie time he mistook plainsong for Dvořák?

In Monday night's episode the quizmaster fell short of his own high standards by offering the wrong answer to Cambridge undergraduates during a music round.

(Should we merge these 2 threads, or not??)

Long and entertaining interview in today's Times with one of the two captains in tomorrow's semi-final between Emmanuel Cambridge and Wolfson Cambridge, Bobby Seagull - about his remarkable back story, his name....

Apparently his opposite number Eric Monkman's tortured expressions as he searches for the right answer have spawned countless online memes.

It was a cracking semi-final...even Jeremy seemed impressed. Such a shame those two excellent teams had to play off against each other.

Indeed - the "guys of whatever gender" all did extremely well!

A blistering performance by Balliol - it should be a helluva final.

Controversy from an earlier round surrounding an answer from Edinburgh's captain - did he say Ireland or Aland? But both captains to be commended for having been amongst the four least dithery captains this season (along with Messrs Monkman and Seagull). Paxo didn't need to say "We need an answer" once

                            He said Aland

Just goes to show … something:

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
