General ribbing accepted - if we had a list of Top 10 inane posts I'm sure I'd be well represented. But the coming together of the good lady and Bruckner 8 does please me......

I think we should have a "Top three reasons that I am fed up of lists " thread.
I listened to some liszt today. Bloody Brilliant.
Apparently it's ok to swear on R3 now.

        Well said teamsaint.

Tell you what, lets all bash a composer that we personally dislike and let other people agree with it so we can feel superior when they are not around to defend themselves.
        Best regards,
        Jonathan

One person's list is another person's load of old Samuel.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

The more Liszt I've heard over the years the more I've come to admire Liszt's music .

Jonathan - have you heard the Orchester Wiener Akademie / Martin Haselböck period instrument recordings of the symphonic poems? If you haven't, you should http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/r/N...dventure/60260

            (Scheidt's a wonderful composer, too. Try http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/r/Ricercar/RIC301)

Hmmm..bit pricey for now. Bit worried that I might start to develop a big time penchant for Liszt .
I suppose the two "Council tax free " months are as good a time as any though.

The lists I'm particularly averse to are those awful 500 ... to do before you die - eg 500 paintings to see ...; 500 bus rides to go on ...; 500 cakes to eat ... etc. I feel that the implication is that if you haven't ticked no. 500 off before you're on your death-bed then you are a failure

I hate them all, apart from the ones on here, as like a boarder said earliere, you dop learn fromn them! Miond you having said that, I saw Julien Sorel's post above, and yes Scheidt is a composer that deserves more recognition.

                          I like Saly's and Anton's lists.
Oh and Alkan over Liszt every day of the week (I do like some Liszt though).

He probably is - but can you imagine the announcement - 'This week's composer is ...' ? Nobody would listen

Thinking about this in the bath, and yes I did take the coal out first, are, especially to a dimwit of my musical upbringing, lists and charts different?

Unlike probably everyone hereabouts the (pop) charts were very much part of my formative years and thus are as natural to me as news on the hour.

I'm sure some folk would exclaim "bloody repeats"
