you really will only make yourself unhappy in persisting with these fantasies
why not put some of your energy into something more constructive ?
how about writing a string quartet ?
I'm sure , as you have obviously listened to lots you could make something interesting

You might mourn the loss of the influence of the church BUT there are many many people (thinking about this for example http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...s-8482083.html) who are more than a little relieved that this is the case.
As I have said before, some folk in your church DO do good things BUT that seems to be in spite of rather than because of the Pope and the rest of them.
Given what has been perpetrated by these religionists I really think that we need to remove their influence all together...
      ... and thump this instead ... ?

I hope I would not appear in any way patronising by suggesting you might be really good at that, Mr GG ...

When I was at school in my native Scotland I was hit once - by a teacher using the strap. I was aged seven at the time. She did it only once and I grabbed the wretched thing hard when it hit my hand and I strapped her back - harder. I am by nature a non-violent person and always have been; this was not therefore intended as an act of violence on my part but a knee-jerk reaction intended merely as an example to demonstrate that this kind of offensive behaviour had no place in a civilised society regardless of who did the strapping. It never happened again.

No. I'm a character from a nineteenth century French novel.

The difficulty is - if you look back over your posts - you sometimes use single quotation marks where you aren't quoting directly. The effect is as if you are introducing a reservation about the word or phrase's applicability or value. So it becomes a bit confusing.

I'm now used to a house-style of double quotation marks for direct quotations, so mea culpa, like . On the other hand I use -ise rather than -ize endings.

              Hopelessly inconsistent .

You had very strong views on what constitutes 'a civilised society' (direct quote!) even at seven years of age, ahinton ... ?

And the AVERAGE marriage is expected to last for 32 years. Which means quite a number will last a lot longer. Actually, 32 years strikes me as a pretty long time.

Do you have any similar statistics for the average duration of a homosexual partnership, Amsy?

                    No, I thought not.
Well, mine has lasted 51 years so far and counting. A few threads ago, ( it seems a lifetime ! ) I recorded the fact that according to 2011 statistics on civil partnerships, only 2% of male partnerships have ended in official dissolution, and 4% of female partnerships. Of course, the figure will rise, as the earliest civil partnerships were only at the end of 2005, but nevertheless it's an indicator of success. Again, there are no figures for the duration of gay relationships in general, but there is no reason to suppose that they are briefer than heterosexual ones.

It would seem that the sad stereotype of the limp wristed fairy flitting from branch to branch is still seen as the true image by some of the sexual dinosaurs on this board.

Well, yes, I've already confessed my own 'inconsistency' in the matter and I now deeply apologise. If I had thought it would have caused huge confusion on the part of the reader regarding the thrust of my posts I would have ceased this inconsistent punctuation immediately,

Forthwith on this forum I shall adopt wholly the traditional UK method and not, as before, outrageously "mix 'n' max" ...

I did something similar when I was 9, but I got expelled

It was a male teacher (I would never be so cowardly to hit a female, however young I was and no matter the context) and I hit him over the head with a chair.

Today, these teachers would be jailed, but it was different then.

That wasn't 'always' the intended meaning, unless you believe that he meant a womb by 'a safe & warm environment'. & even if he did, a lesbian couple would be able, probably, to provide two such 'safe and warm environments'.
