Leicester Cathedral has unveiled the design for a tombstone to mark the final resting place of Richard III.

I think that is a beautiful design.

Seconded. Whilst I have no thoughts either way about whether his final resting place should be Leicester or York, I can imagine that this could well be a good ploy in favour of the former.

Is the floor designb supposed to be the Rosa alba? If so, the leaves are missing.

                Richard's emblem was a boar.

I don't like the straight lines of the cross against the French curves of the flower....

....I suppose this is a model photographed to seem life sized....the white of the rose could be broken up (it's too flat) by choosing a good white stone or mosaicing....

....I like the tomb, but not for R3....too modern for R3....

....the shadow has to be thought about too....

Not sure about the tomb design. Now somebody has mentioned cheese...........

Apparently the stone will be quarried not far from Richard's childhood home at Middleham Castle, which seems a bit of an insult to Yorkshire. After all, his good deeds were all centred around York, where he is still admired for his justice. If we need a memorial it surely should be where his better side was expressed.

I don't like it, the two elements don't go together - the tomb is too stark and masculine and the rose is too curvy and effeminate. I still think York has a stronger claim for burial there.

I think too that it's a beautiful design. But in my opinion Richard III should be buried either in York or in Westminster Abbey, not in Leicester.

Oh dear - when this popped up on screen I thought it was a piece of cheese on a plate. Doesn't the cathedral have a slab with a beautifully designed & carved text already?
