I think handsomefortune has a point, in that criticism of Beyonce originates in that she may have been unpatriotic in not giving it full wellie and singing with her natural voice, and hang the consequences - whether it might have been an awful performance, or whether she might have had to cancel subsequent engagements due to a sore throat.
After all, the president is head of the armed forces.

Reminded of Queens Jubilee, in which choir sang in pouring rain on River Thames.

So criticism would have nothing to do with quality of performance.

Yes, but to continue your analogy, without the technology people can't cheat people...

So what technologies are permitted in musical performance ?
              String adjusters ?
              Assisted reverberation ?
              Sound reinforcement ?

She would have been a speck on the horizon with NO sound if there was NO technology .........

No, you are wrong. Perhaps you would care to check out the goosebumps thread, where I have mentioned a number of pieces that I do like.

What I don't like are performers- miming or not- who take a simple, well-known melody such as The Star Spangled Banner, and "milk" it out of all proportion.

Just because I don't like Beyonce,or Berlioz, or John Cage for that matter, doesn't mean I don't like music. It means I don't like SOME music. But I'm sure you understand that. What I don't understand is why you feel the need to reduce almost every discussion down to the level of personal attacks.

Another example is "Memory" from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats". The 10/8 bar is sung as a 12/8 bar by everybody, and it appears that even A.L-W has bowed to the inevitable. Good for him for trying though
