I'm in Dresden at the moment and last Monday I saw Thielemann conduct the Staatskapelle Dresden most splendid Bruckner 4. They love him here. I notice that he rarely ventures outside the core Austro/German repertoire.

LATE NIGHT BREAKING ?NEWS
"The rumour comes in Die Welt.... the players have chosen Kirill Petrenko, music director of the Bavaria State Opera. The Berlin Phil press office has promised ‘more tomorrow’ in an email to Slipped Disc.
Independent of his report we were informed last week that Petrenko had been offered the job on election day and turned it down."
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

"The election of a new chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic remains without result. But apparently on Sunday, the orchestra had launched a second attempt to elect a successor to Simon Rattle. Accurate, however, was not elicit. The press office said only on request, before the summer recess from 29 July, there might be still a General Assembly. From another source, however, it was said that on Sunday, they had chosen the Russian conductor Kirill Petrenko, General Music Director of the Bayerische Staatsoper. This got canceled. Faced with this, the press office of the Philharmonic said to Die Welt: "We can comment tomorrow, not today."Last edited by bluestateprommer; 22-06-15, 05:06.

NB for the confused: Kirill Petrenko, already working in Berlin, not Scouser Vasily...
Ah... cross-posted with Mary

And congratulations to Stanfordian for being the only one in this entire thread to even mention Kirill Petrenko !!
(Assuming I've used 'search thread' correctly. Ok, bluestateprommer quoted from an article which mentioned him, but Stan actually included him among his favoured candidates! http://www.for3.org/forums/showthrea...218#post485218 )"...the isle is full of noises,

I think Vasily is a wonderful conductor and I'm delighted he's staying in Liverpool - but aside from earlier passing references (where I mentally registered a melding of Vasily and Karabits) I don't think I've ever encountered KP - or even heard of him - before! Anyone else?
And, it's happened at last (a little earlier than I was expecting) - even the Principal Conductor of the BPO is younger than I am these days!Numquam Satis!
