So who will be the Berlin Phil.'s music director once Sir Simon leaves?
Wonder what Furtwangler and Karajan would have made of this.
.... a case of Karajan Voting I guess.
.
(Say it out loud....

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
I think that the very title of this thread is misleading.
Since HvK, nobody has Taken Over the BPO. The best that can be said is that they have Taken On the orchestra, with varying degrees of success and, I suspect, personal satisfaction...
Sir Simon Rattle has, IMV, done better than most and I cannot see an obvious successor in view.
It reminds me of the situation in the LSO after they lost Pierre Monteux. Previn probably came out of it the best, but look at who they are stuck with now!
From somebody who lives in Leipzig, who read it the local paper. Chailly for Berlin, or I will eat my hat:-)
Chailly referred to in both, then - as the 'compromise' candidate... But would he accept what is effectively a 'third choice' appointment, behind the deadlocked Nelsons and Thielemann?

Given Norman Lebrecht's recent track record with rumours one wonders what credibility should be given to his views.

I tend to agree, so have changed the title to be more factual.
