                  Almost missed that!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Now it's my turn to not get the joke.

Nadia Boulanger?? It was Georges Auric composed the score to the Lavender Hill Mob!

Why ever not? Preumably because it doean't quite look like a fire station as we know them. What's wrong with having different styles?

Then, of course we'd hit matters of "taste". Presumably one reason why we don't see many buildings like Poundbury fire station is that they probably cost more to design and build. A "traditional" box shaped building is easier and cheaper. Functionality may also play a part.

no, its because it's shit, fake and designed by someone who got drunk and made the model out of lego
it reminds me of the "Palace of the Parliament" in Bucharest

As there weren't fire stations in 18th century Britain - at least, not capable of housing modern fire engines - the 'designer of the Poundbury station has had to design a Georgian building, & then stick a modern fire-engine garage onto it. Of course, if it had been a genuine Georgian building planning permission for such an addition would have been refused, & if it had been approved Prince Charles would have been fulminating against it. Which is why the abomination is a double-sham.
