Building on flood plains leads to flooding risk. Flooding risk is paid for via insurance. That element of insurance is hence a tax.

It essentially re-names the tax that would have been paid under Governments with more social conscience on planning etc.

A 65-year-old Guatemalan woman woke up to find a 12m 'sinkhole' under her bed.

A large sinkhole has opened up overnight in the middle of a housing estate in Schmalkalden, central Germany, sucking a car into its depths and leaving a crater of around 40m by 30m.

Good caption: "The owners of the house first noticed something was wrong when a 2ft hole appeared."
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

That does all seem a tad tenuous, Lat. How does a Government's stance on planning (not that central govt has much say in where local developments take place) link through to tax?

We need fewer people in this country (and the world).

Insurance companies are saying that premiums on houses built on flood plains (& other vulnerable areas) will have to rise because the government has cut the amount of money for flood defences, breaking a deal with the insurance companies to charge lower premiums. It could be said that it's the responsibility of people who buy property vulnerable to flooding to pay the costs, rather than pass it on to all of us.

In the ground or in Gideon's plan for economic revival?
