Sorry but I did say that if they were submitted without a composer they were not included - I am a Breafast listener with a classical music hinterland the size of a penny black......apologies

      Thanks a lot.

Err, what happened to my friend Remo Lauricella's overture 'Fleet Street' ? Although as it was never recorded AFAIK it's academic.
He is there but under R rather than L as being stupid I had no idea if he was double barrelled or not - sorry......as too what we add to our Breakfast list - I serve at the pleasure of you Madam President!

No, you are the list expert Anton, I wouldn't dream of interfering. Perhaps ONE suggestion each from people who have posted on this. But that means another list for you

Good morning all. Have doctor's appt soon.

This will probably be the last time I do this as I am teaching salymap Excel 2007 by PM! Will update if more entries arrive.
A few more that we've all missed:

          Arnold: Becchus the Dandiprat

          Elgar: Froissart

          Gounod: Faust overture

          Schumann: A Faust Overture*

          Spohr: JessondaØ

          Wagner: Eine Faust overture*

** I remember that we played both the Schumann and the Wagner overtures one after the other to open one of Silvestri's concerts.

Ø The first time that we encountered this overture, my 4th horn looked at his watch and announced "jessonda ten minutes"

Anton - thanks for the overview list - a shame that Pabmusic and Sir Velo were not a little more polite with their notifications of your errors and omissions. This thread was set up to brighten up a dull day for Saly - there has been a great response and has resulted in some suggestions for Breakfast, I guess some new ones for boarders to explore and a masterclass in EXCEL for Saly.

not my favourites [which have all been mentioned], just to give something for Anton to do

                Wagner - Rienzi
                Beethoven - King Stephen
                Schumann - Genoveva
Balakirev - on 3 Russian Themes
would Handel's Messiah overture be allowed ?

What I could do early next week is update the list for subsequent "votes" and only show each overture once - then everyone has a period to vote for their favourite on the list and the top ten (?) are sent to PT/SMP......only a timid suggestion of course - I await your return from Harley Street.

Sounds fine to me. I hope people suggest something we don't hear much though...I think you must find a new younger MBer to take over these lists for you. It's too much for you now.{beats hasty retreat!]

Glad to see there are some overplayed, hackneyed pieces not there

And perhaps, to celebrate St Cecilia's Day, William Boyce's Overture for St Cecilia's Day.
