Two things struck me. First, did the cyclist really ride by "at the wrong time", or did the race start at the wrong time, just when a cyclist wearing confusing clothing was passing? Second, does this: "He said it "wouldn't have looked particularly good" if the race had been won by someone who had never won before, just because half the field were running the wrong way" suggest to you that the most appropriate runners are somehow marked as potential winners in advance?
