It not really of interest or concern to me, being outside all that kind of thing, but I suppose that choosing him for the post at least indicates that those who did the choosing recognised the need for someone to be able to anoint the Church with oil (or rather pour oil on troubled and disagreeing factions within it); that said, he'll probably have also to demonstrate a preternatural ability to turn font water into oil and sell it at as many dollars per barrel as possible if he's to achieve anything useful in terms of ameliorating the parlous state of Church finances...

It's a pity that he's not from US, otherwise we could have had An American in Palace...

Yes, there is. There's also Matthew 21 v 12 which doesn't altogether square with Mandryka's hopes.

Now then scotty, don't get yourself into deeper water with the transgendered members of the Naval community

In truth, you try looking for images on google using the seach "French Navy women sailors" - all you get is reference to a shade of blue

Ok, its very superficial, but if I was an establishment type, (I'm not in case you need it clarifying !) i would think that an Old Etonian Oil exec looked like a safe pair of hands.

1 years experience too. Not many jobs at that level where that is enough.

Perhaps he will be the best thing since those sliced loaves on the mount of wherever !

I can't quite understand how being a Bishop for only one year can qualify him to be the Archbishop of Canterbury.
It's a bit like e.g. Andrew Manze spending a year as associate conductor of the BBCSSO before being appointed as Principal conductor of the Berlin Phil.

Eye! Stop needling! You might risk giving Mandryka the hump...

or getting on Radio 3 to play the piano after half a dozen lessons...but of course, that couldn't happen......

I'll willingly leave the search for female and 'transgendered' French sailors to members with a slightly more exotic inclination and desperation, amsey.

Are you referring to Hamilton Academicals supporters, scotty?

I don't see why not - the main qualification he would have as soon as (& presumably before) he entered theological college. Anything else is simply a knowledge of how the organisation works (which he would develop as a parish priest) & negotiation & diplomacy. As I said before, not having been high up in the heirarchy for long could be an advantage.

I don't imagine that he'll be able to do much about the problems at BBC (since divine intervention won;t cut a whole lot of ice there), so what price its "religious programmes" if indeed it turns out to be for the chop?
