We seem have lost far too many great people recently.
Goodbye Clive Dunn, thanks for the laughs

Lovely stuff!
All the exterior scenes for Dad's Army were shot on a disused Army range near Thetford. I was never lucky enough to see them on location, but I did mix the film excerpts for numerous episodes. When you dub film you often have to repeat sequences until you get it right, and as the Light Entertainment dubs were usually in the evening of a long day, this could be tedious.
Not so with Dad's Army, and especially when Clive Dunn was on the screen.
None of us could have imagined then that thirty odd years later we would still be laughing with this wonderful comedy of character. Thank you Clive.

Hear hear Flay !!
Clive Dunn was a slightly hammy clown (of course the only character playing a parody version of someone outside his actual age range), the perfect foil for the real geniuses of 'Dad's Army', Arthur Lowe, John Le Mesurier and John Laurie
But who can ever forget "They don't like it up 'em" and "Don't panic!!!"... Much used in my office!
Among many, a favourite is the episode ("A Brush with the Law") when Mainwaring is charged with showing a light and taken to court by a gleeful Warden... Jones' bungling of his evidence with Mainwaring conducting his own defence is pure genius!"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Clive Dunn lived to a ripe old age but it is sad news nonetheless.
I never tire of "Dad's Army" - it is, for me, one of the best situation comedy series of all time. The general public must agree. It has had a prime time weekend television spot and a breakfast time radio slot for much of the year. Long may this continue.

I would lump Dad's Army with Last of the Summer Wine as the most boring sitcoms ever put out by the BBC (though several notches above ITV's "On No, It's Selwyn Froggit" and "Get Some In!" from the same decade). These incessant repeats are puzzling to me.
I think young people would have a big problem relating to this stuff (so their repeat time seems limited) whereas Are You Being Served probably appeals to a significantly wider audience.
The opening animated sequence of Dad's Army is quite clever and memorable though.
