    Please help me, ahinton!

Would people stop being tiresome, please - you know the rules: no politics.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I agree, but as we are all tiresome to a considerable degree, how can we decide? Actually, you are all so tiresome, and I'm so considerate---SIGH!

God yes. If I worried about being tiresome I'd never post anything!

But let's not be disingenuous here - we all know exactly the sort of tiresomeness that's against the rules!

Yes, that infuriating habit that gets up the noses of the "silent majority" who sit in their distance waiting to pounce, of acknowledging that the political must occupy a huge part of anything that needs serious examination and consideration if we're all going to get anywhere in terms of finding answers to anything.

Perhaps they're happier if there are no answers? Or maybe they think we have no right to include them in what we talk and, yes, argue about?

The rules are helpful, but the polis won't run itself, and its affairs demand proper consideration.

When I was very young I came to the conclusion that each and every one of us is a hypocrite, it's really all just a question of degree. So I resolved never to accuse anyone of hypocrisy ever again.

Sadly, that resolution lasted for about a day ...

Can blue men sing the whites or are they all hypocrites?

I think (some) blue women are better at it.

Mebbi, Bonnie Raitt? Elkie Brooks? Janis Joplin?

But with the benefit of hindsight, would you say that such conclusion had merit? Why in any case - and on what particular grounds - did you arrive at it in the first place?

Well, my dear ahinton, with the benefit of hindsight I subsequently arrived at my second and final conclusion that, though my first conclusion was derived from simple human experience and a keen personal perception, it is also true that there are those others who appear to be blissfully unaware of their own hypocrisies and I often feel I can greatly assist by relieving them of their ignorance in the matter.

It is also, as I'm sure you might well agree, richly more satisfying pointing out the hypocrisies of others rather than advertising one's own, don't you think ?
