I'll bow to your local knowledge on this one although my experience of cockneys is that they'll abbreviate any word as far as is feasibly possible!

... a pedant wd point out that the 'St Paul's' of the boys' and girls' schools refers to St Paul's Cathedral - the boys' school originated there. I think it's a coincidence that the (rather nondescript) church in Hammersmith (by/under the Hammersmith Flyover) is also a St Paul's...

That is no doubt true in a number of responses but it is also true that others respond with an almost ill-disguised smug satisfaction when asked an obvious question for which they are well-prepared. So it is indeed a 'good question' to them!

However, whether the pre-prepared "answer" actually answers the question is another matter altogether, I agree!
