No, it should be skatalogial (cf. Ἀνάβασις / κατάβασις)

He was on the radio again yesterday, ("Thinking Aloud"), making me think old Screwtop must be the Beeb's last resort whenever they've lost the... thread.

You'd be very hard put to find a member of the stature of 'Scotty' and any noticeable ideas around here, jean ...

However, I suspect the reason for the query wasn't really that subtle which probably explains why it appears to have been completely lost on both yourself and ferneyhoughwotevah. It's like trying to explain a joke. So, go figure!¹

Okay it's now back to the kinder, gentler pastures of my self-imposed temporary exile ...

Here's the link to the programme, jean:

Laurie Taylor examines the intellectual credibility of key thinkers of the new left.

Thanks - I had found it! It's more interesting than I might have expected because some of the thinkers 'of the Left' that he wants to rubbish probably deserve rubbishing - eg Lacan, who everybody (on the left) had far too much respect for for too long.

Was that why his earlier book was dismissed at the time? Why he was no-platformed? (A good word for this thread)

And he does have (some) time for Foucault.

But the programme was frustratingly compressed.

                          .

I am left wondering if this has anything to do with his alleged support for Holocaust-deniers, or a Holocaust denier, or if my chronology is out on this.

Yes but in rather a damning with faint praise kind of way, given that he singles out Foucault's writings on prison as reflecting the man's sado-masochistic leanings! You have to remember that anything to a self-confessed Chrstian of the Right will be redeemed by such confessionals!

As always, yes. So little time devoted to discussion that might lead to some kind of definitive answers seems almost to be in line with the BBC's oft-proclaimed impartiality.

Sorabji used to say that the great thing about changing one's mind is having one to change in the first place; likewise, in order to tgake an opportunity to explain a joke of your own making, you have to crack one first.
