I keep hearing the term 'residency' when an orchestra is in town to give more than one concert and it really irks me! The Concertgebouw's two Edinburgh Festival dates was thus described and it sounds (to me) as if the Orchestra has moved lock, stock and barrel to Edinburgh.

I mean, it was only two concerts. (Both of which were fantastic! This was an occasion when 'amazing playing' would have been an understatement!)

D946 no. 1 I must have blanked out the presenter. NK made a pretty speech....

Heard it twice today and it took a concerted effort not to administer the Kirkby Kiss to the perpetrators:

        "Let's touch base"

In a similar vein (and apologies if this has been posted before):

Also irritating, newsreaders, (when Iused to watch the news) who said things like

" a million and a third", when it should surely have been " one and a third Million".

            One for pedants corner perhaps.

whenever I hear "a million and a half" (commonly used to describe the population of Auckland) my mind automatically writes it as 1,000,000.5

A woman once went into a baker's shop and asked for "a dozen and a half rolls". Well, you can guess what happened.

I confess, I read page one and skipped to page 147. I apologise if someone has already commented on an advert that keeps telling me that something is two times as good as something else. What happened to 'twice'?!!

The newsreader on the 2 pm news on Radio 4 mentioned a queue having taken place somewhere. I was so delighted that there are others following our cultural lead that I omitted to note which country.

                      - yes I heard this highly individual pronunciation of "coup"; and the reporter's very pointed correction in the main story. (And apparently, there hasn't been one - we know because the Chief of the Army told us so.)

I like to think that only in Britain could these two things be confused.

"Thank you very much I'm afraid that's all we've got time for": yet again, this morning, on Today. World War Three has been postponed while the BBC makes time for... more important things to invite people on to discuss

From two separate BBC TV commentators, only yesterday ...

'If you do the Math ... '

'Things have been tried every which way ... '

I suppose it was only a matter of time.

Surely that's one you would use all the time ?
