Well, I suggest that to inconvenience them you leave most of your personal belongings at home.

"at the end of the day...."

They all say this in the news. Even dictators from the other side of the world!

Reporter: "So why are you firing on these quiet protestors?"

Dictator " Well, at the end of the day..."

      Agggghhh!!!!

At the end of the day I go to xxxxxxx bed.

Slightly off topic, but it is (underground) railway related.

Sign states, "Dogs must be carried on the escalator".

Pedant says, "But I don't have a dog."

That's one of my London Underground favourites alongside the pedant looking perplexed at the announcement "Please ensure that you use all available doors" and saying "But there simply isn't time!"

That should be possible using quantum physics...

As for "all available space", where's Cyril Smith when you need him?

                Exit strategy

A friend wrote in an arts council application that the " exit strategy " was to put the instrument back in the case and go home

Any cliche spoken by Ruth Archer sounds even more annoying

I see we have meandered a little off the road from time to time of "phrases, words that set your teeth on edge" (and full marks to the poster who mentioned that that phrase - set your teeth on edge - sets his/her teeth on edge) but miraculously we get tugged back on to the straight and narrow.

"Ticks all the boxes" is another that has me mentally axeing ("e" no "e"?) the perpertrator.

"Whilst". Unnecessarily archaic as Fowler might say especially as "while" does the job. But it presists...

I quite like whilst...works better with verbs that start with a vowel perhaps.

Someone saying 'teeth on edge' OK, I expect someone already said that, but right now I can't be bothered to read the thread.

I suppose all the great football phrases have come out already? (like 'It was in the back of the net!)

I hate it when someone says 'we're walking on eggshells'

In my neighbourhood instead of saying 'never mind' they say 'no worries'

I hate Wednesdays because on that day I'm sat next to a fellow who is (transport man) on the phone all day and calls EVERYONE mate, all bloody day! And it's Wednesday tomorrow!

Interesting how the word "decry" has made something of a comeback over recent years.

A Canadian friend who came to stay a few years ago said, "What an old-fashioned word!" when someone used it in an interview, and I agreed.

Yes, that's always the danger with a thread like this ...

A member objected to 'tad' which I'm sure I've occasionally used here, and I suspect there there may well have been a few other members suddenly blushing in front of their computer screens as well.
