On my recent expedition to East Anglia I was accused by my mate of overly enjoying bunting. There is a lot of it about there and it takes the mind off the bins all of which say Veolia. To divert, I simply said "cry baby bunting" which was intended to mean nothing but what it confirmed for him was that I was living in the past. And why not? The past is another country; they do things differently there. LP Hartley - The Go-Between - to which we were north although east of The Shrimp and the Anemone. What was true of then is even more true of now. Google says it is Bye Baby Bunting but it is a modern device that doesn't recognise the merits in recycling time. That sort of confusion with phraseology.....it does set my teeth on edge.

All adults - especially British ones - should be walking on beaches with or without soft toys, depending on personal preference. All else is superfluous.

"Power couple" . Katie was described yesterday as "one half of a power couple", as Clemmy has been. What does it mean? Various BBC presenters, sportspeople, etc. Power over whom, or to do what? A smugly annoying expression.

A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
