Perhaps they could save our local Homebase by adopting this idea!

North and South are human inventions, in that there's no good reason for placing north at the top and south at the bottom. Some ancient maps had them left and right.

This might be worth a look at:-

The standard way has Britain as a charming featureless creature which faces towards America while hardly seeing it. The inverted form faces Europe with an unexpectedly angry London eye and a bit of a mouth in the North of England. It is more human in form, bulbous of nose, and less suggestive of toppling but what it lacks is the neutrality in the vaguest definition.

The fact that they won't permit the brilliant Don't Drink the Water without Minnie Mouse voices shows just how far it has all gone:

On my recent expedition to East Anglia I was accused by my mate of overly enjoying bunting. There is a lot of it about there and it takes the mind off the bins all of which say Veolia. To divert, I simply said "cry baby bunting" which was intended to mean nothing but what it confirmed for him was that I was living in the past. And why not? The past is another country; they do things differently there. LP Hartley - The Go-Between - to which we were north although east of The Shrimp and the Anemone. What was true of then is even more true of now. Google says it is Bye Baby Bunting but it is a modern device that doesn't recognise the merits in recycling time. That sort of confusion with phraseology.....it does set my teeth on edge.

It faces Trumpland whether upside down or the right way up. It also faces the rest of Europe either way, as indeed it must as UK is in Europe.

It could be facing towards the sky. The best place is wanting to go up. I was going to start a thread on this. Do you wish you hadn't gone as far up?

All adults - especially British ones - should be walking on beaches with or without soft toys, depending on personal preference. All else is superfluous.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

"Power couple" . Katie was described yesterday as "one half of a power couple", as Clemmy has been. What does it mean? Various BBC presenters, sportspeople, etc. Power over whom, or to do what? A smugly annoying expression.

Hadn't thought of that, but YES. I assumed it means a husband and wife who are both claimed to be influential/important in some undefined way.

It's girl power without quite rejecting the patriarchy.

!!! - but, in KD's case, is this supposedly indicative of power to play the violin badly and make an impression by talking about dance on music programmes as though it's more important and exciting than music? - or what is it?
