"Taking to market" when used of anything other than livestock, vegetables etc being transported to a physical market-place.

So e.g. "taking the law firm to market" ... "taking the concept to market" .... &c. &c. = instant 'fingernails down blackboard' time for me
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

        Harsh.

while we are on the subject, " Assistant Referee".

which doesn't really set the teeth on edge, (apart from in the "reminding us about FIFA" way), but they are, and will be for ever, Linesmen. Even the female ones.

You will never EVER hear a spectator shouting " you must be blind, Assistant Referee".

Well, maybe at the better public schools......

add in " Routes to Market".

in my mind, and I guess for most of us, " To market" is inevitably and unbreakably connected with " Fat Pig". And quite right too.

Not much point in a skinny pig, really, when you think about it.

OT, of course, but a phrase which has just amused me on the News website: "A spokesman for Gascoigne declined to comment on the case."

Beloved by BBC Economics Commentators of the cheery Robert Peston mould:

'Unemployment soared by 200,000 last month AND many leading economists are now warning of ...'
'Unemployment plunged by 200,000 last month BUT many leading economists are still warning of ... '

'New York woman sues 12-year-old nephew over hug that broke her wrist'

                          Especially in conjunction with

'I was at a party recently, and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvre plate'

It is often the case that real life trumps satire. The jury awarded zero damages, apparently (but that must have meant they found for the plaintiff). The boy was 8 when it happened.

Here's what her shyster (American legal term) said:
“We do not take great pleasure in bringing a minor to court,” the aunt’s lawyer, William Beckert, said, according to the Daily News. “She is not here enjoying a moment of this.”

But the nephew, who was eight at the time of the hug, “should have known better”.

“We have rules for children,” the lawyer continued. “He was not careful. He was unsafe.”

The jury members reportedly took just 25 minutes to come to their decision, according to the New York Daily News.
... presumably they had to finish lunch first.

Reminds me why my own dentures are imperilled by the words "Human Resources Manager".
