It's not particularly American - but have you ever heard an Italian not start a reply with Allora...?

A sense of wanting to disconnect desired future from unfortunate present is often implied, though I suppose any disconnection implies a prior connection.

And no, I don't know what we used to say instead before we invented it.
As of, or from now? From now on(wards)?

Well it certainly used to be widespread on American TV channels before it arrived here ... and the Italians have the distinct advantage of knowing that anything uttered in their language sounds nothing less than delightful to the discerning ear!

Really? I think people just tack it onto the end of any sentence to sound cool going forward.

They repeat it because no-one seems to challenge it.

                        This proves it.

The big spending happened when the banks failed. Thatcher took for ever to reduce public spending.

I'm Not on anybody's side here, but it is a LIE that labour spends more than the tories. Whether that is good or bad is not my point.
With some judicious posting , and exponential growth, we can send it viral.....

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
