    Sorry,off my own topic
I can't understand why people get upset about being off-topic. I look on the threads rather like conversations - they would be dull if we had to stick to the subject of the opening remark.

I agree about her sense of place - although I've spent many years in various cities I'm sure I know those streets in 'More Work for the Undertaker' and 'Tiger in the Smoke' (a rather frightening work, and has my vote for her best).

AM my remarks about off-topicness [sorry] are a dig at those who moan about this. I love it when the threads broaden out a bit And Campion does develop from a silly-ass 1920s character to a more serious detective. However the books manage quite well without him mostly.

Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday have been dark grey, and not because of the weather.

            - not so much "thinking outside the box" as "between the buttons"!

Incidentally; all those who've said they do associate colours with weekdays: does the colour/shade change at night? Is there a sudden change of colour at midnight? And, if so, what happens when the clocks go back/forward?

I think you misunderstand the effect, at least as far as I am concerned.

The fact that I may think of Wednesday as maroon and Thursday as green doesn't mean I go around in a sort of maroon haze on a Wednesday, which might change (if I'm still up) to a green haze at midnight. It's just that when I think of Wednesday next week because I'm going to a concert that day, it appears to me as a maroon object in its setting among the other days of that week.

Perhaps it is difficult to explain if you don't experience the phenomenon yourself. What do other affectees think?

For me it's about the sound, shape, appearance of the name of the day - whether the name is the thing itself is another matter altogether. However, it's odd that if I think 'Thursday' and 'jeudi' the same (purplish) colour comes to mind. That I don't quite understand.

Ah! Thank you - this is (I think) a little clearer: so it's as much/more the word "Tuesday" that creates an association with a colour as/than it is the experience of the day itself? (This also seems to be what Roslynmuse is suggesting?

Although I am long retired I think the colours get more to my taste as the week goes on. I supposeMonday should be pale yellow but the week starts darker than that. Green and blue, two of my favourite colours, should probably be Wedns and Thurs. Am I interested in it? Yes. Do I believe it? Not sure.

I agree it's the sounds of the words rather than the visualisation of what a specific day is. My list is:
                          Monday - White
                          Tuesday - Yellow
                          Wednesday -Violet
                          Thursday - Gold
                          Friday - Dark Green
                          Saturday - Pink
                          Sunday - Pale Blue

For me, Tuesday and Thursday come out the strongest, which is odd as I don't like the colour yellow very much but to me, they are the two happiest days, colourwise.
Edit: And, to me, Tuesday and Thursday seem the happiest days of the week, which is illogical

I think it can be the word itself, as Roslynmuse suggests, though even in that case (witness that 'Thursday' and 'Jeudi' both trigger the colour), I suspect that there is an underlying thought of the day itself, and what associations it may have. Maybe instilled at an early age: Wednesday = school sports in the afternoon, Saturday = first release from the rigours of the week*, Sunday = day of nothing being open, etc.

It's as though the colours are used to flag the differences, rather than being logically chosen from the spectrum.

*In my case also not until the afternoon, though. School was 5½ days a week.
