Is the service of Nine Lessons & Carols from King’s College Cambridge not going to be

It would appear from the Radio 3 schedules published in the December 2012 issue of the BBC Music Magazine that the service of Nine Lessons and Carols from King’s College, Cambridge will not be rebroadcast on Radio 3 on Christmas Day.

This means that anyone relying on DAB will only be able to receive the service on Radio 4 on Christmas Eve with the appalling sound available at 128 kbps Joint Stereo. It also means that we will probably never hear the full organ voluntary at the end of the service as Radio 4 have traditionally left the service after or even during the Bach version of In dulci jubilo.

The BBC MM says 'Afternoon on 3' but gives the time as 2 - 4.30 which would fit the repeat of the KCC service nicely. BBC MM usually flesh out the Christmas echedule in the next issue.

My opinion is that we get the repeat.

The live relay usually lasts for a little under 90 minutes (a few minutes after 3pm - 4.30pm). This means that there's a spare hour in the Afternoon on 3 slot, or is there a 'typo' somewhere?

This is what the KCC website says :

The 2012 service booklet will be available at the beginning of December.

          Listening to the service :
A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is broadcast live on BBC Radio 4 on 24 December at 3pm (10:00 EST or 07:00 PST). The service is also broadcast at 2pm on Radio 3 on Christmas Day, and at various times on the BBC World Service.

          Hopefully, all is well.

You see the words 'archive recording from Chapel of St John's College, Cambridge' and your pulse races - will it be GG conducting his choir - at last, the Beeb mines the treasures? - then you read on and find that it's Clare College singing in St J................

              Sigh.

              Why do they do this?

Then next Allwood's Rodoolphus Choir in St Peter's Oxford..............again, sigh and why? Those guys get everywhere.

Come on, chaps, why not do some thoughtful archiving?
