The IMF gets a disturbing idea from Chicago economists

in Tgraf a message from Chicago Economists distinctly at odds with the austere reductionism of their school ... a means to do away with the debt crisis by fiat ....

er it may take me some time to understand the ins and outs of all this .... and the old saw that says if it seems too good to be true etc etc ... but ...

I read it, but didn't understand how it would work, calum. Even old AE-P confessed he was "baffled" by the claims.

I don't somehow think the banks would take kindly to it....

quite ... the banks not taking kindly to it is a major factor in favour of the proposal ... i for one would rather have our economies subject to democratic government than oligarchies of rapacity

Good grief, sounds like all that alternative , conspiracy theorist nonsense that the alternative media have been banging on about for so long.
In any case, there may be something in this. Any way you look at it, the western economies are pretty much running on a huge, unsecured bubble of "money" that is nothing more than a figure on a computer screen. Quantitative Easing etc.
As someone quite simply put it recently, all the EU bailouts, IMf funds etc are just kicking the can down the road.

If there is a real danger of a collapse of the financial system, and that surely is possible, the an orderly restructuring of the system might be the only way out for the big money people.

'locally', a collapse might be the case, except for a few who find corporations to join ...apparently.

Sackings, stress, and suicide: today, it's hard to believe that the Square Mile was ever London's cockiest workplace. So can it get its groove back?
