Lang Lang was one of Peter Donohoe's 50 great pianists today. In his monotone and understated way, PD declared that we have to see through the publicity machine and the showmanship and find a great pianist 'in the making'. I've never joined in the general Lang Lang bashing, if only because he brings a new and younger audience to music. And as PD says, he has 'a superhuman technique'.
Lang Lang gets thumbs up from Donohoe

A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It isn't confined to living pianists, in the last week or so we have had Michelangeli, Kempff, Richter and others.

i confess both to being put off him by his exaggerated facial mannerisms but also to a growing interest in his development as an artist rather than as a hyped showman. He has much to offer and I'm hoping that the interpretative side of things will develop - the signs are good. He's clearly a bright man too and if young people are inspired by him to follow his musical interests, so much the better
