I think a state of approx 40m people qualifies as a country - it's quite different from other parts of India, RM.

As to your response to RM that you think that he'll find that you didn't present Kerala as "a "Utopian society", something that doesn't and can't exist" but that you "merely pointed out a couple of facts about it", this may indeed be the case as far as it goes, but that makes no material difference to the way in which the rôle and status of women in contemporary Kerala is reported by certain others as though seen through rose-tinted spectacles when the truth is noticeably less palatable than the reportage.

Almost as I did during the course of providing what I felt (and stated) was unnecessary to provide in the first place; why helio has sought to make so much of it is unknown to me.

RM's Rule 2 applies. When on the back foot, resort to ignoring what is there in black and white and default to name calling.

I'm enjoying reading most of these exchanges. I disagree with some of helio's comments, as I think she's being a bit naive. Equally, I think RM is ignoring some of helio's valid points. Whatever, I'm learning things and being made to think widely.

South America is not an area I'm very knowledgeable about, at least yet. (Though I suspect that may have to change with its increasing economic power, which may be very interesting for me. Learning Portuguese would be fun...)

However, I'm becoming increasingly fed up with yet more silly jibes, name-calling and smileys by the score from one or two who clearly are unable to appreciate the posts of several others. So I suggest that you desist, disappear and stop making fools of yourselves. This is precisely why I am supporting ff's idea of a separate, restricted area for those who wish, and are willing, to discuss these things in an intelligent manner.
