Oh, and here's another one in Scotland (striking - no surprise):
Leaders of Scotland's largest teaching union defer a decision on whether to ballot for industrial action over pensions.

I'm amazed you describe it as a profession. They've long since given up any attempt to behave as if they were such (except the university teachers).
Remind us what it is that school teachers are doing so badly, and university teachers are doing so well...or professionally. It's not all that obvious, really.

Any other professions falling well short, apart from the police, and school teachers?

I know. I am waiting for an apology for his(?)abusive posts, one of which had to be removed.
            Well I am not really.
But it helps fill up half time in the footy !

It would be incredibly funny, of course! Well, it wouldn't, but what you write and the way in which you write it is at least funny! But this "burdens" thing still bothers me, as I'd thought (perhaps vainly) that we'd already arrived at the point at which they'd be regarded as the mere pedal points that they are, no more, no less...

On another topic altogether (for which digression I apologise profusely), is anyone here enjoying the wonderful Rachmaninov and Medtner series as COTW this week? Mon Dieu - WHAT a pair they were, together and (more importantly) separately!

YES! (I'd no idea about Medtner's brother having been such a pain, as we learnt today )
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Do you prefer the soft centres or the hard centres?
