Thanks to Anna for reminder of the new programme on Steam Railways which I watched last night. I realise now that the Blaenau Ffestiniog railway was fairly recently reopened when I visited it years ago. It's wonderful to hear of people who will restore old engines and then give them away. A lovely programme.

I am asking for trouble from Anna as I can't spell the Blaenau Ffestinniog Railway in Wales but I shall never forget a trip in the driver's cab, the friends I was with sweet talking him into allowing it. A wonderful experience.
Also I love the very different Watercress Line in Surrey
Any favourites from you ??

Well, I guess if Virgin can run trains and make discs then so could EMI...

Anna
Not about steam trains but this seems a suitable thread for a geeky anoraky posting!
BBC4 9pm tonight, programme about model railways, The Joy of (Train) Sets. (not that I ever had one but I once went to a model railway exhibition in Chippenham which was totally fascinating)

Thanks Anna, I must watch that or record,in memory ofmy childhood friend Peter, wholived next door when we were in London until I was seven.
We were born eleven days apart and our mothers were friends, I spent a lot of time with him and he had a Hornby train set, managed by his dad, and which ran on metholated spirits as, shock horror, we had no electricity then. We all loved playing trains, the set-up took up their sitting room. He would have loved that programme but sadly he died a few year's ago.
