any news, as yet, as to who bought the collection in the end?

someone said today that the colour illustrated 'radio times' covers are to be made into xmas cards - is it true?

if so, at least i can afford them!

This happened last year, too: various colour covers from a variety of "Christmas Specials" from the '30s on were made into A5-sized Christmas Cards with proceeds going to Children in Need. They made a fine collection in their own right, too.

The British Broadcasting Company dates from 1922 (and RT started the following year) - the Company became the Corporation in 1927.

                The lot fetched £1100 plus 19% commission = £1309

Unfortunately, unless someone owns up to purchasing you'll never know. The auctioneers won't let on.

So it didn't increase in price for some years. I remember it from about 1935 and that's what it cost then.

Better value than today's with too many adverts and emphasis on the comedy and lighter things on TV, with a few measly pages of radio.
