    Eric Hobsbawm has died aged 95

    Eric Hobsbawm, one of Britain's most eminent historians, has died at the age of 95, his family confirm.

    he stayed in the CPGB after 1956 ..... however i did greatly appreciate his 'Age of Extremes' for bringing home to me the awful impact of the 1929 slump and its consequences ...

        A good quote from that link:

        'In his 80s he reflected: "Anybody who saw Hitler's rise happen first hand could not have helped but be shaped by it, politically. That boy is still somewhere inside, always will be." '
        It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
