Interested in checking the two forms trailer and trail (which I use), I looked up 'trail' in the OED ('Radio and Television. A piece of advance publicity (often an excerpt) broadcast prior to the transmission of a programme') and there was this example:
1973 Listener 6 Dec. 798/1 Accidentally switching on early..on Radio 3..I heard..off-putting trails.
NB Also 'trailer', same meaning. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Trailers are what you get in the cinema (and annoyingly on DVDs), before the main feature.

Yes, OED says Cinematography(!) for 'trailer', Radio and television for 'trail'.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

There was another S. Walker trailer during the afternoon concert - embarrassing in the extreme, going on about Stephen Isserlis being a great tweeter, because of his great literary skills. I kid you not. By that logic, Wayne Rooney is another literary wonder.
I foolishly thought SI was a great cellist, rather than yet another Twit.
