I think that's a carry-over from commercial radio where the 'this' is an advert break - same thing, really!

it's even worse on R4, I've stopped leaving in on even in the kitchen, unless I'm in reach of a mute button, even the R4 news now generally includes an extended advert masquerading as a news item - I gave up live R3 except as an early morning alarm when necessary - listening now mostly TTN recorded so can select the items.

They do this so often now that they've obviously been told to do it, and by whom? I think we can guess.

Also, I find radio trailers for TV programmes irritating because they rarely make sense without the picture. I try not to listen .
There are people who believe that radio paints the best pictures.

That quote you responded to does the classic linguistic convention of separating subject from experience, or thing from action, eg "the lightning flashed". One never does this with "housing"! When really hearing, one IS the hearing. Krishnamurti was good on this kind of demystification.

'I have wasted my life. People were listening to me as if I am an entertainment', maybe an apt self-assessment of Radio 3.......certainly my last words.

That’s pure Classic FM (Radio 3’s template). It’s pathetic and insulting to the listeners.

Not exactly an R3 trail, but I note that last night's snippets of Meditative music for late night solace apparently included the 'Old Time Radio Commercial' Pepsi-Cola Hits the Spot. Was that Sam's tribute to the Director-General and get him to listen to Radio 3?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Radio 3 has been the lodestar of my life, and has opened up so many avenues, composers and genres. 2024 was the Annus horribilis, with old faces going, chamber music emasculated or lost in an endless stream of seamless Classic FM style excerpts. Now, from 6.30am till 7.30 pm, no landmarks, nothing forecast in the Radio Times. No dedicated lunchtime chamber music, New Generation artists lost in the general dross, and inane patronising laxative adverts once or twice an hour. Sean Rafferty gone and Katie Denham staying. How can I make anyone listen?

                      .

... the endless repetition of the trailer for The Great Gatsby is almost enough for me to wish that Drama be eradicated from Radio 3

                      .

                        .
Wouldn't have that much effect on trailers though - they are quite happy to clutter up the airwaves with pushing TV stuff, at least the GG is on R3...
