There was another charity appeal a few days ago, I forget which programme was interrupted. It was about the humanitarian crisis in the middle east. I'm afraid this is yet another example of Radio 3 being expected to broadcast anything and everything while other channels are allowed to stick to what they do best.

With privatisation combining with increasing reluctance for governmental infrastructural spending meaning more and more vital and emergency work now being offloaded onto the charity sector, and more and more TV and online advertising pleas from charities, I could easily clean myself out if I could satisfy my conscience as to which of them are the worthiest. At least last year's Red Poppy day reverted to having them in shopping precincts, as had always been the case until a few years ago, when I literally cycled miles across S London in search of a poppy. There may well be charities that follow this example - not, as is so often the case - insisting one set up a regular direct deduction by leaving one's banking account number and other details... and to whom?? That matter may in turn come up against the buffers given that so many people these days shop without carrying small change.

No, just a lot of trailer trash.
Speaking of which, I saw there was some baroque music on listed on today's Classical (not) Live and decided to see if I could catch it as there was an approximate start time indicated. I'd forgotten about the trailer inserts and so got a shock when suddenly the next item wasn't something from the Lammermuir concert, but an ad. A further shock has been the appearance of Ravel Daphnis and Chloe instead of the rest of the baroque items. It isn't even on the schedule, and I certainly don't want to listen to it, so I've switched off. I wouldn't be surprised if the baroque items have been ditched to make up the Wigmore Hall overrun, and the Ravel is one of the daily items that screws up the afternoon schedules by not being advertised, but on the 'not for our eyes' playlist.
So from the advertised 5 items from Lammermuir festival there have been 2. The time has been taken up with Ravel and now apparently Bartok Romanian Folk Dances(also not listed ) - pieces that are so rarely heard that of course they have to take priority over Biber, Castello and Muffat, who are all so overexposed on R3.

The appeal from the DEC (Disaster Emergencies Committee), the umbrella organization for 15 leading aid charities, was broadcast on many different radio and TV channels - and as such it wasn't really an Annoying Radio 3 Trailer in the sense conveyed by the title of this thread, was it?

A Muffat sonata was broadcast shortly before 3.00 p.m. and has been followed by Martinu's 1st Symphony - both new works to me, although I've come across them more by luck than judgment. .

Nurse, come quickly, with the smelling salts.

              A whole symphony?
              Hope you explore the others.

I already have the 3rd and 4th with Jarvi and the Bamberger Symphoniker.

Exactly - there’s an established procedure for this sort of emergency charitable appeal and channels like Radio 3 join in with others - not just BBC but commercial radio as well. They are pretty rare and only happen in response to a major humanitarian disaster. They are also very effective . £10 million pounds of charitable donation matched by a promised £10 mill from the Uk government would save lives in the Middle East undoubtedly. There you go - I got a plug in. Far from being annoying it’s potentially life -saving .

I didn't know that ; it was the first time I could recall hearing a charity appeal on Radio 3. I wasn't 'annoyed' by it, and yes, it wasn;t a 'trailer' as such. I was just adding to the previous post about 'Children in Need' which I assumed was another charity appeal. So if we want to be pedantic I suppose it was an 'advert' of sorts.
