sometimes I wish people were aware of what many in the corporation think about these charity days. They bend the BBC’s editorial guidelines to breaking point , are often sloppy in production terms and full of second rate lacklustre material, sickeningly sentimental, and are a magnet for the publicity obsessed and sometimes frankly mad. But in the words of Smashy and Nicey “it’s all for charidee mate …”

I guess they raise millions and that’s the excuse , But is that just money taken away from other charities?

I don’t know - parts of R3 seem to have become a bit of a joke.

I have given up on daytime R3 - but, having been listening to TTN through half the night, after the plaintive Reicha Oboe Quintet, with no back announcement from the TTN presenter (Penny Gore) in blasts the trailer for everything and anything on Radio Three - best if you have a smart speaker!! - like some force 10 gale: every imaginable R3 voice praising this and that to the skies.

I made a LOUD AND COLOURFUL COMPLAINT here about this some weeks back and for a while it stopped. The jarring juxtaposition with the sweet TTN content and presentation is very unwelcome - and clearly banged into the schedule by someone paying no attention to what music has just been played.

Edit: for some time the back announcement has been spoken by the Breakfast presenter (usually Petroc) - but the force 10 trailer is relatively new.

I particularly dislike the trailers for BBC iPlayer or Podcasts which have nothing to do with Radio 3. I find that soundtracks of TV programmes are incomprehensible to me without the picture.

I did like the Reicha oboe quintet. The first movement could have been Mozart! The rest, not so good, but still pleasant.
