    Your Three Favourite Septets.........

It's about time we had a list thread, if you agree.

I'll kick off with Saint-Saens Septet in Eb for trumpet, piano and strings, op 65

You must have an incredibly retentive mind, salymap. I suppose that's why your tales about years ago are so interesting, when you post them.

Do I know any septets? Yes, I must do. At least, I must have heard some. Wasn't the one you mention on R3 a short while ago? But could I list any? Not a one! Bad memory!

Don't know salymap. But thinking about it, WAM did - the one with the oboe and the two horns for his sister to play, or to his sister or something. I might have it somewhere. Am currently going through a big compilation of choral stuff, though, so shan't look it out yet.

Edit: You got me thinking so I've had to check it out! Here it is: you'll probably know it from the first track. D major Divertimento. You can listen to 4 x 30secs on here!

Actually, no you can't. The link I put in won't work somehow. But if you google Nannerl septet and go to the Rhapsody page and add the tracks to the mixer, you can. Sorry!

Yes, as vinteuil tells us. But I wish he hadn't! One of his most tedious works IMO The best that can be said for it is that it appparently inspired Schubert to go one (or IMHO lots) better
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Rather fond of Eisler's, of which I know two. I prefer the second. My third choice would be the Beethoven Op. 20. What is there not to admire about it?
