Nilsson as Salome: yes, agreed, I've got that LP set and it is a truly terrible cover. Nilsson's expression isnt so much lustful as salivating, she looks more like a vampire on target for her dinner than a sex-obsessed young princess. Fortunately, her singing is a lot better than her acting!

Decca must have realised they hadnt got this one right, because when they re-issued the recording on CD they used a different cover.

BIS, what is that all about?! Is this tree on the way to become a piano?! The dangers of imbibing too much .

Incidentally, thanks to new member rkyburz, I've been listening to this by way of Brautigam's Mozart piano sonatas. These seem quite little known aside of magazines, hardly showing up in Amazon searches for 'Mozart Piano Sonatas', and then often with no reviews submitted. They're utterly brilliant performances, gorgeously recorded, certainly the ne plus ultra of fortepiano playing (and piano sound!) I've heard to date.
Certainly stretches the definition of HIPP instruments!

        Brahms = Brahms & Liszt = pissed. The best cure, supposedly, for a hang-over is a fry-up.

(rhyming slang commonly drops the second - rhyming - part of the phrase to leave just the first part, making it even more confusing - but I expect you knew that)

My guess is that Scottycelt saw that cover before his first hearing of Brahms - thus putting him off for life.

This cover annoys me greatly, but I can't exactly say why. Some of it has to do with the over-use of upper-case and no paragraphs, and some is just the cluttered appearance. Then there's the truly weird colour scheme - the more I look, the more I hate it. Argh...! Ugh...! (pity there's no 'vomit' emoticon - a vomicon?).

                    I knew that, really

Perhaps it's just as well they're not making stringed instruments - Horses having their tails plucked for the bows, cats being strangled to make the strings (or is it sheep?)

(just in case someone thought I was being serious)

I knew you knew...... I was just being po-faced for a change.

I think it's sheep or goat catgut for stringed instruments.

I do remember that one, yes, thanks to Gramophone featuring it in best-and-worst covers a few years ago...

Looking at it now - classic case of "so bad it's good"!
I love a fried egg - not with bacon but with dry-fried large, flat mushrooms (you cook them first, then store in a hot oven), chopped hot chillies and tomatoes...
recipe sounds ace Jayne, would give it a go, but I hate egg white...might work as an omelette though?
Any road up, there needs to be a campaign against bad covers, notably classical CD's with boring pictures of the composer......

                            A very fine collection jlw...

...except that I could never see what's wrong with Herbie der Held in leathers, an image fully justified by the audio results
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
