Andy Murray wins the US open tennis

Well done Andy. Perhaps now we can stop rabbiting on about Fred Perry who won in 1930 something.

The one sport I really enjoy watching, better than those boring cricket and footie matches.

Yes and I apologise for the lack of capital letters in the heading, I pressed caps and cap lock but it was the middle of the night

Liked the comment on Lendl this morning - where will he go now that things are sorted - now that the wind is changed? Will he get the umbrella out and float back over the London skyline? So great for Andy.

Meh! Saly asked me to correct her typo, so I've changed that too
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Who's us? What about us? Perhaps it's a good idea for some of us to 'knock a ball about' in whatever sport they fancy AND knock ideas about here.

I can see you've never got your tennis gear on and had a good match

This is the 'icing on the cake' at the end of a truly remarkable summer for UK sport.

IMHO this is the main event in world tennis as the Yanks will never fully accept anyone unless they achieve in the US ... unfair, of course, but that's just the way it is. So it's an even greater triumph than if Murray had won Wimbledon this year..

Lendl has given the super-talented Scot that extra bit of tactical awareness and emotional maturity necessary to succeed at the very top. It's not been easy for him (probably for both men) but Murray's sheer determination to triumph and overcome his own previous 'failings' and some of the snide press and media remarks south of the border has been a joy to behold for every 'dour and grumpy' Scotsman and woman. We've always been highly suspicious of those over-smarmy folk with their permanent silly grins and annoyingly impeccable delivery in front of a camera.

Oh, Andy, how you've made our day ... well done, laddie!

                      Well done indeed.

Those squeaky shoes are quite annoying though! Is that a plastic surface?

Maybe, but he cheated by wearing long trousers to combat those tornadoes, and, furthermore, this Englishman was so proud of being British he became a naturalised US citizen ... typical.

On the male side, a rather remote possibility. The highest ranked player after Murray is number 200 in the world.
BBC, Sport, BBC Sport, bbc.co.uk, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

More potential among the women. Laura Robson and Heather Watson are both in the top 100 and have been doing well lately.
