I'm trying to get my old Systemdek 900 up and running, unfortunately the power supply is kaput and I'm contemplating splashing out £350 on a Heed 2 psu that apparently does the business. It is expensive (grateful if anyone knows of a cheaper solution) but I finds it frustrating being unable to listen to the LPs that gave me so much musical enjoyment over the years, somehow the digital transfers are never quite the same.

Much to mull over in the last few contributions, but I think the thought I shall go to bed with and ponder (not an immoral act as far as I know) is still the one that I raised earlier: I will spend money as far as I have it, to improve the system until I dont feel more expenditure will be justified for the increasingly small improvement I shall hear. At the moment, I feel I've reached that point.

And with regard to the post about demonstrations in the hifi dealer's demo room, I have also experienced remarkable sound in a demo room, and once bought a very expensive bit of equipment (my current amp) on the strength of that demo, but when I got it home and set it up it sounded COMPLETELY different. Not better or worse, just different. I put it down to the fact that the demo room was bare of any soft furnishing (curtains, carpets, sofas) whereas my flat had all of those things. That was at least ten years ago, and it still sounds fine to me.

I never buy something unless I can see how it sounds in my own room/system first. And I have rejected several pieces after said audition.

I think they are out of business. Perhaps spend a few hundred quid for a Rega P-3?

Crikey, the last time I saw these performances on vinyl (c1960's) they cost 21/- on Ace of Clubs and I still have the 3rd and 7th.

C1960s, a 3 bedroom Victorian house in Hackney was around £3,000. Expect to pay about £850,000 today - so these LPs are very cheap!

I have some of the set on the original LPs. I paid a few quid each for them secondhand about twenty years ago. My 2006 price guide (admittedly now rather out of date) suggests they would be worth about ten quid each. What they cost new in the mid 1950s I have no idea, but they would have been full price. The Ace of Clubs were reissues and would have been less pricey.

                    I'd move to Edmonton.

I'd imagine records are cheaper there than in hipster Hackney.

                        don't I know it.!!

I used to know a couple.

One of them used to drive to every home spuds game with Frankie's " The Power of Love" on continuous loop at full volume.

Which is what one might expect of spuds fans, I suppose.

                            Oh bad luck.

I thought Orient was your second team.

Many of my family members support Orient, but not me

Awful, dry and constricted 'early Decca ffs' sound, aided and abetted by the rather dull and dutiful 'interpretations' ( IMV).
                                Not a patch on Decca's later ( 1960s?) superb Maazel/ VPO recordings! ( once again - 'IMV')
