It would be nice to be able to get new VHS players.
Is there a VideOdyssey equivalent for hardware?

Well I used to make some excellent audio recordings on my top of the range Philips VHS recorder! Particularly good for opera.

I used to have a flagship JVC VHS HiFi recorder, replete with manual input volume sliders. While its dynamic and frequency ranges were very fine for their time, there was always a very low-level clicking that I assumed reflected the switchover of the helical scan. Amazing to think that a mobile phone with the right plug-in accessory can do a better job, these days, let alone a Zoom or Tascam-type pocket recorder.

Mention of 'Vieodyssey' prompts me to put in a good word for Henry Bohn Books, for any CD or vinyl collectors heading towards Liverpool. Up the side of the Emrpire Theatre, close to Lime st. Station, it has a splendid hoard of rarities.

Still trying to decide if that is, or is not, Jezza in the picture!

                Indeed! Fair comment.

It definitely is; I chose that picture because I thought it would be appreciated by several members of the forum.

No one makes VHS players or recorders now, but there are companies that sell refurbished recorders, such as:

I’ve not used them myself (I still have a couple of VHS recorders that still seem to be in reasonable working order) so have no idea if their refurbished players are any good.

My eye was more drawn to the Tarantino Movies behind him.. (just watched Pulp Fiction again, gee, it stands up brilliantly even now...)....

I wonder if Corbyn directed this still from the movie of his life?

Just glad I've kept most of my VHS's, many recorded off of TV programmes pre-digital, most, apart from 3 or so that got irreparably damaged, still in good nick. One of the two video players inherited from my Dad (who died in 2001) still works fine: the other had to go. It's times like this that really valuable documentaries made in the first decade of the new Millennium offered predictions for the future that is today that deserve replays. The few programmes taken from commercial stations I was out of the house for and which include the commercial breaks also offer evidence of the marked quality deterioration in quality in today's advertisements, which mostly seem to be designed for a pre-teenage demographic: surely they aren't buying burglar alarms or being told to "keep away from children"?!

I had a record player in the shed and kept a few charity shop records there but they tended to warp with the damp. I took the record player apart and cut the wires during a psychotic episode ( I have paranoid schizophrenia ) and not replaced it. Have a good Phillips CD player with speakers built in which I use for my cd collection.
Annoyingly listening to and commenting on radio 3...

Don't forget the olfactory element too!

Edit: I am not a vinyl buyer
