Does anyone still use or like vinyl?

I was in my local Oxfam music shop today and there was an Lp playing of the late Iona Brown 'singing' the Mozart 3rd violin concerto. It was terrific until, in the lovely second movement, the needle mis tracked and skipped a few bars. At this point, I uttered a small prayer to the inventors of the cd. When I got home, I pulled out my 25 year old cd of this recording and found it sounded just as great as it did when I first bought it.
I do miss the sleeves though...

Btw, I love the Maazel.
Having been through ACL and ECS I'll stick with my Beulah CDs. The vinyl set is overpriced and the EMI RPO LP of tone poems is not included. I am just a little curious about the sound quality of the nouveau vinyl - anyone any comments?

I detached my old turntable (Dual) from the hifi a year ago and placed it in the spare room since I was hardly ever using it and it was taking up space. Partly thanks to this thread and partly by chancing to read a recommendation I have now acquired a Project Elemental Phono USB turntable and my interest in vinyl is re-invigorated. I had read that cheap vinyl to digital conversion devices on offer are useless. This one has a pleasing minimalist design and high quality at a quite reasonable price. It attaches via USB to the laptop for recording or playing to the hifi system.

There's this - http://www.j-sainsbury.co.uk/media/l...ularity-soars/ - though perhaps not of great interest to many here.

I popped into HMV in Southampton yesterday, and was astonished at the space they now give over to vinyl. I would say it was maybe 15% of all the space for music. Must have been way in excess of the 5% of the market that vinyl has.
I can only think this must be down to the fact that it is way more profitable than CDs, both in unit price and margin. Anybody else noticed this ?
Ca't say I am very tempted at the usual price of around £18, given the value available on CDs. ( current HMV offer of 2 classic rock albums at 2 for £10, just for example).
Would any price tempt some of you ?
There is the odd thing that might tempt me at £ 10/12 perhaps, classics I never got round to, albums with great covers, or the odd jazz album.
I wonder if any record companies have tried housing single CD albums in 12" covers , since the covers seem to be a big pull for vinyl sales?I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
I am not a number, I am a free man.

I wonder if the attraction will become short-lived once paw-marks and scratches take their toll!
You got many of them in Penzance?
By the way, the Edge of the World Bookshop are very nice people, if you feel the urge to pick up the latest bestseller. But no doubt you already know this.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
