    Yes indeed. Give the girl a chance to get off her bike, have a fag and get her breath back before asking what her Granny in Selkirk thought of it!

        Well, silver for GB from Lizzie Armistead in cycling. Now, am I showing my militant feminist side or was that far more exciting than the mens road race yesterday?

        Terrific race, plenty of drama and good crowds despite the downpours. Those riders might cut a diminutive figure off their bikes, but they are real lionhearts. I feel quite proud that a cyclist should get team GB's first medal and my impression was that Lizzie Armistead was genuinely delighted to have won silver rather than being crest fallen to have been beaten by a mere two bike lengths. I felt sorry that after so much good work for the team Emma Pooley should puncture in the last 6Km and had no chance to contest fourth place. Wednesday's TTs won't generate so much excitement, but there could be more medals.

          Exactly!
          "...the isle is full of noises,
          Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
          Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

              Nah. Knox was a miserable old git. Where would we be without them?

              Walter said it all:

              O, Woman! in our hours of ease,
              Uncertain, coy, and hard to please,
              And variable as the shade
              By the light quivering aspen made;
              When pain and anguish wring the brow,
              A ministering angel thou!

                          Knox was so much of a 'miserable old git' that even the cousin-slaying Good Queen Bess considered him to be quite beyond the pale ...

                          As for Scott ... well, he almost got it spot on ... just substitute 'impossible' for 'hard', and ...
